BitTorrent, which is now owned by TRON, has recently offered information about the future release of BitTorrent Live in the second half of 2019.

BitTorrent Live will benefit from blockchain technology to be one of the first decentralized social media applications. But what exactly is BitTorrent Live?

From the initial access offered by the company to BitTorrent Live streaming service, the application seems to be a social media platform similar to Snapchat and Chinese TikTok app that permits customers engage in live content creation while sharing it with multiple people via their smartphones.

Similar to other social media video platforms, users will be able to stream from any Internet-connected location while viewers will be allowed to respond with various reactions and feedback.

Apparently, the idea of building this type of video creation platform for everyday users is not original in any way with Snapchat and TikTok already creating massive bases of users that will be difficult to steal.

To quote Justin Sun, BitTorrent CEO: “Imagine chatting with your favorite athlete, becoming immersed in a music festival, or meeting new friends to share your passions – all by simply firing up the BitTorrent Live app”.

Further on, Justin added that blockchain decentralized technology will allow more freedom for Internet users and better content entertainment while returning privacy and control to customers who can take advantage of BitTorrent digital currency to pay for various products and services.

We can now better understand the bigger purpose TRON imagined when purchasing BitTorrent file sharing application and creating later on the BitTorrent cryptocurrency which can be used by both content creators and their audiences.

All that remains now is to see how the future social media content platform will integrate with BitTorrent digital currency and how smoothly will all function as we are well aware that blockchain technology is still working to solve scalability issues and increase overall speed.
